monthly prompt 2

Image
Have just finished (yes another finished!!!!) my quilt for monthly prompt 2 - Romans 3:23-25 (New International Version) V23 - for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. V24 -and are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. V25 - God presented Him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in His blood. He did this to demonstrate His justice, because in His forbearance He had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished. The black and white is for our sins and the red flowers represent the blood

Image
More stuff finished - This is my first convergance quilt which also "fits" to be my monthly prompt quilt for quiltwithchrist internet group - CHALLENGE VERSE Psalm 23:2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside still waters,- the green represents the green pastures and of course there is the "pasture" bottom left - and the purple??? well it is a Godly regal colour!

Finished!!!!!!!!!!

Image
What have I been doing???? Well finishing off stuff of course - have no $$$$ for backing or wadding so making do with what I have. Thank goodness no one can see inside quilts cos they would be horrified with the joining of the batting. Firstly we have a panel of a Japanese Geisha that I bought at the southern cross quilters retreat in bendigo earlier this year - I got the Kona Bay magazine and the perfect blocks for setting around the panel was in it - so here we are.

star pupil

Image
Today my Mum came and spent the day with me - and made a quilt!!! She was the star of my class today (well she was the only student but she was still the star!!!) It was a convergance quilt - she named it Autumn Convergance and between the two of us we managed to get it pieced, quilted and bound. Even got the label written out. So I sent her home with "homework" - sew on the binding and label - TONITE!!!!

birthday

Image
It's my birthday!!! Hooray!!! And yes I am.......drum roll..........45 AND I got a great present (and a new toy) an ipod - so just need to work out how to use it without Sarah getting frustrated with me AND I got my first "happy birthday Nanna" card from guess who???

Image
Thanks to Lissa (of the fabricologists anonymous fame) I have a new title My Peculiar Aristocratic Title is: Her Most Serene Highness Lady Dianne the Appropriate of Waterless St Mildred Get your Peculiar Aristocratic Title Pretty appropriate I reckon in this drought area....lol

convergence quilt

Image
Ive actually done some quilting today - first time in months!!! I was looking at and saw that fran had made a convergence quilt (ala Ricky Tims) so I dug out my book which has been languishing on my shelf and some fabrics - and here it is And pretty good I reckon too!!!

exploring faith through fabric

Just home from a very interesting and inspiring exhibition held at Cohuna Uniting Church by the Traralgon Unting Church Fabric Art Group. The ladies make fabric art "banners" for hanging in their church - fabric is pinned onto foam boards and heaps of different textures/fabrics etc are used. Very hard to describe - and I wasnt allowed to take photos so will have to leave it up to your imagination. Most of the designs were very simple - but very provoking because of their simplicity. One was just very dark blue garbadine with metallic gold thread embroidered on it of the three wise men and the christmas star. Very simple but delightful to look at

let me at 'em

Image
Isnt Mia cute??? Well of course the answer is YES - and here she is desparately wanting to get in the calf pen and play. These calves are all about a week or so old and very cute and very affectionate - might have something to do with the fact that I take milk into them twice a day

busy busy busy

Image
Aren't I good??? Two posts in the one month - even in the one week!!! This is part of the reason why I havent been posting much - its calving time here - so far 34 cows have had their calves and only 70ish to go...sigh....so lots of work checking cows, looking after calves etc. BUT - I am so proud of myself - I have "pulled" 3 calves myself (calves stuck while being born and we have to assist by attaching rope to calves feet and pulling!!!). Luckily the cows have all been laying next to fences so I can tie the rope onto the fence and pull and pull and pull!!!! Here is a photo Megan took of Rusty watching a few of the calves - these ones are about 2-3 weeks old

of course a quilt for mika

Image
I couldnt send Mika home to Japan without a quilt - so here it is!!! Debbie Mumm fabrics with hearts appliqued on by machine alternating with stars - just like Mika - a lovely girl who is a star!!!!

more mia

Image
and look at mia - she is already a tv addict

mia (of course)

Image
OK for all of you that have been asking - here is one of the latest photos of Mia - Aimee was playing dress ups with her - isnt she cute???

Mika milking

Image
Here is Mika milking - and she did a great job too - except when it got to giving one cow a needle - she couldnt do it - and said "sorry cow"

what happened to august and MIKA!!!!

Image
OK who stole August???? I managed to go a whole month without posting - and I did heaps of stuff too....so here goes the catch up..... We were very blessed to have a Japanese student, Mika, come and stay with us for a week. She was so much fun to have here and she had a go at EVERYTHING - yes even milking. Here she is with all of us...

Who is this????

Image
Can you work out who this is?? It's Megan ( in full makeup) for her part in the Rock Eisteddfod - she is peerpressure/water - meant to look scary and bossy!!!

A new hat for Mia

Image
Look what I knitted Mia I started to knit her a cardigan out of this wool but didnt like it (and didnt have enough wool -as she keeps growing) so made her a beanie instead

Yikes its almost the end of July and I havent posted

Image
Good intentions...sigh... For the "avid" reader of my blog, Im sorry Ive let you down again by not posting...maybe August will be the month when I get sorted out. Anyways ... what have I been doing? Quilting ( a bit) and hugging Mia (LOTS!!!) Here's the latest quilt Ive made for Mia - unfortunately Sarah and Megan want it to so Ive compromised and it stays here for when she comes to visit. I got this kit from Nicky Tepper at the recent Southern Cross Quilters retreat in Bendigo - not colours I would normally choose but I DO think its quite lovely!!!

Up to date....or....a good intention started

Image
Have a look at this - actually managed to finish the first block of "Girls Day Out" - which is a BOM (Block of the month for you non-quilters) in the month it was received. Again for the non-quilters a BOM is a quilt you sign up for at a quilt shop (in this case Broyala Patches in Boort) and each month it just "arrives" in the mail box - the pattern for the next part of the quilt along with whatever fabrics/threads are required. The theory is that you have a month to complete the block before the next one arrives - hence the title Block Of The Month. Regular readers of this blog will know that I am not the best at keeping up with these BOM's so this a big moment for me!!! Enjoy........

More Nanna stuff - babysitting this time

Image
Got to babysit Mia today - Aimee and Joshua went to Echuca (about 45 minutes away) for "quality time" together - i.e. shopping and going to the movies without a baby!!! How good is Mia though slept peacefully and hardly a problem. Can't wait til the next time - cos her Nanna really loves her - in fact we all do!!!!

No photo today

No photo today - sorry if you were looking forward to it. Its cold - freezing cold but yesterday we had rain - hooray - and nearly an inch. Keep growing paddocks....please Today Gary and I 'sorted out' the herd - worked out which ones we will keep milking over the winter - and which will go on "holidays" until they calve in the spring. Vet is coming tomorrow to preg test those we want to keep milking - otherwise a couple might be going on the Big Truck - one way ticket to Uncle ben's.. So not very productive on much other stuff - didnt have breakfast until after 11 0'clock - so just had lunch at 3 ish....goodness!!!!

But wait there's more

Image
Further to my post on Sunday of finishing and starting and new beginnings etc......there's more....if blogger will let me finally load the picture...oh the joys of being on hayband as opposed to broadband. Here's Megan with a huge grin (that you cant see - but believe me its there!!!) Sunday she had her first real "proper" ride of Rusty - even trotted. She made me go to Echuca on Saturday to a shop I never thought I would see - Drovers, its a "horse" shop - we had to buy helmet and proper riding boots and of course a knotted thingy for the horses head and a lead rope (can u tell how clueless I am to all things horse) Anyways she is one happy camper

hooray something finished and a start made

Image
Well today was a day of actually finishing something and a start made somewhere else. Today I FINALLY (HOORAY!!!!) finished my needleturn applique "sampler" that I started in a class in Cohuna 18 months ago (at least - it could be even longer ago than that!!!) Here it is - and I even handquilted it too - please dont look too close tho!! Secondly I finished my first block in the Oriental BOM from Chandlers Cottage - Im so far behind in this that I have the whole set to do - and one block comes each month....sigh....why do I sign up for BOMs???? (or block of the months for those not in the know BUT I did manage to vliseofix on all the "Bits" for Girls Day Out Month 1 BOM which I only received last week -so a record there - will try and keep on track with this one (fingers crossed) So here is the Oriental Block One - Japanese Iris

Megan has a horse

Image
Megan has her own horse - and how proud is she!!! I promised her when she was five that by the time she was ten she could have her own (real - not an ornament) horse. Well she is 12 so Im only two years late Cousins of Gary's sold their farm and are building in Bendigonia and dont need/want one of their horses - so Megan scored it - her name is Rusty and she is quite nice (thats a BIG statement for someone like me that absolutely hates horses)

long time no post.......or.....no time to post!!!!

Image
How slack am I? Please don't answer its a rhetorical question!!!!! Managed to pass by the whole month of May without a post. Mainly cos I've had no time at all. I've worked the last month at the local high school in the office PLUS my usual Friday work at tattslotto PLUS my useful farm stuff SO here's a few catch up photos Of Mia (of course) and her quilt that I finally finished - Hugs N Kisses Fairy Kisses which was a block of the month - and huge

My third daughter Megan aged 12 has started to learn to play the flute And she's quite good too!!! Doesn't she look professional!!!!! Has been teaching herself at home more advanced stuff than the teacher has shown her and can even play good old "Hot Cross Buns" and "Mary Had a Little Lamb" Why is it when an instrument is learned these are ALWAYS some of the first tunes that we learn?

egyptian quilts for the new grandchild

Image
I dared to cut into some Holy Fabric yesterday. About 2 years ago I made Aimee an Egyptian quilt - most of the fabric used I swapped with others on internet quilting list as I wasnt able to source much Egyptian type fabric at the time - mind you its easy to get now!!! Anyways I digress..... There was a sizable amount of fabric left over -and SOOOO lovely - all golds and bronzes and very Nice Indeed So... Yesterday I bravely decided to make Aimee's impending child (any day now!!!) a cot quilt to match hers - and I still had some fabric left so I made a bassinette cover as well!!! AND theres still some left!!! Photos dont do the quilts justice - they are gorgeous and gold and the gorgeous pregnant girly in the photo is Aimee tonight (38 weeks) doctor is a bit worried cos the baby is a size of a 33 week baby so might be induced today - waiting to see about that!!!
