Second week of July 2026

Image
Again nothing finished craft wise - but I have been beavering away! I only have 10 or so hexis to go! Reading wise Finished this book as a physical book I chose this book for the title and it didnt disappoint! A man wakes up in Medieval England with no memory and a half destroyed handbook He gradually remembers why he is there and there are parts of the handbook printed through this book Its funny at times, and at times confusing but well worth the read

First week of July 2026

Image
Ok so here we are in July and NOTHING finished crafty wise still - but dont worry I have been working on things! Mainly this - my hexi quilt - I think I "only" have 30 or so squares to go so almost there Im seriously thinking about getting this long arm quilted but lets see And continuing my newly discovered love of english paper piecing these Lucy Boston blocks - Im hoping to make at least 20 so lets see how that goes Ive also been knitting a jumper for Gary and a cardigan for me - hopefully they both get finished this month as I dont really like making such big things and two at once is a lot!!! On the reading front - a couple more finishes Firstly on my Kobo (yep just for something different) Trying again to read this as I tried last year and just couldnt get into it Its all the things I usually like in a fantasy book but for some reason it feels like a slog Its the story of Raeve, an assassin, but all is not as it seems She meets Kaan and they connect I hear book tw...

June 2026

OK so June has been a total fail! I have no finished projects to show you mainly because there wasnt any! I did have a quick visit to Sarah and had a fabulous time with Ollie and Im so grateful for facetime as I got lots of hugs on arrival! I have however finished lots of books as Ive been in the car at lot so audio books have been my friend Firstly (physical book) Wow This isnt my usual genre - its a mystery/thriller Eden goes on a morning run with just her house key, no phone or anything else. When she comes back her key wont work in the lock and she finds that there is another woman in her home who says she is Eden Great premise for a book and the twists and turns of it really gets your hooked in I didnt think I would like it as much as I did but its a 5 star read for me This one was via audible so audio and another 5 star read/listen Book 5 in the series and continues the adventures of Diana (a witch) and Matthew (a vampire) this one focusing on Diana's fathers family ...

Well winter is just around the corner and it is definetly getting colder! This "should" mean more crafting time - lets see how that goes, I do like a good wet weather timetable which for me means staying inside and not being outside. I have managed to finish a few things - firstly a pair of socks which will be for Sarah and with the leftover yarn I made a pair for Ollie so they can be matchy matchy Ive also been working away at the hexi quilting project and have completed 50 squares so I joined them together into two lots of 25 Im really enjoying working on this as its what I do when I first get up in the morning and I find it soothing and relaxing - Ive still got a fair way to go though On the reading front Ive finished a couple of books Firstly as a physical book This book started well but then it lost its way for me Its the story of Holland who takes a "class" in folklore with the "professor" but all is not what it seems and she finds herself on a qu...

third week of may 2026

Winter has arrived! And also excitingly I have finished my catvent wrap = I used my 2025 Advent calendar kit from obsession yarns and I just love love love the colours It was A Lot of knitting! 24 colours plus the highlight colours so a lot of yarn was used making this. Reading wise I had a finish A physical book - Conform by Ariel Sullivan This was a bookbox book which had a great world building idea but for me it was just such a sad and lonely book for the main character - Emeline The world is one where there are the very rich and then the very poor Emeline is to be "mated" to one of the Ilium which has never happened before It was a bit like the handmaids tale to be honest and three and a half stars for me. Thats this weeks update - many projects are still being worked on and many books are still being read and listened to!

first and second weeks of May

Image
Well with me rarely finishing much at the moment I have decided to just post fortnightly as I might have a bit more to report The reason you are not seeing many finishes is because I am working on several quilts at once - and they are mostly hand pieced so the progress is slow Firstly we have the Green Tea and Sweet Beans quilt (pattern by Jenn Kingwell) and I got the kit from Amitie And then we have the "Is Di mad" hexagon project! I cut the pieces of a layer cake in 4s to get 5 inch back ground squares and then Im appliquing 5/8# hexis onto it. Crazy? Yep 1176 hexis are needed and yes Ive cut them all but I must admit its a really calming and soothing project to work on But it wont be quick! And yes my scrap basket does look considerably smaller after I cut all those hexagons!!!!! And then if that wasnt crazy enough Ive started and english paper pieced patchwork at the crosses! I must admit with the new set up for my crafting areas its very condusive for sitting and sti...

third and fourth weeks of april 2026

Not a lot to report just a couple of book finishes Firstly via audio A court of silver flames by Sarah J Maas This is the best book in the series! Its the story of Nesta and as my daughter told me she is sassy and she sure is! Brave bold but also broken Loved it! And next as a physical book Here One moment by Liane Moriarty I really didnt enjoy this book at all and normally I enjoy this authors writings Its the story of a group of passengers on a flight that have their date and way of death told to them by a fellow passenger and how they go about dealing with it Just a weird book! SO thats my short and quick update!

second week of April 2026

Image
Second week of April and it is starting to get a little cooler - we are not lighting the wood heater yet, the split system is doing the job for now but it wont be far away Firstly, I finished this sashiko stitchery I bought from Patchwork Place Bendigo The kit was to make up a set of coasters but I didnt like the thought of all that stitching getting possibly wet from cups so I made it into a small table topper and Im really happy with how it came out. A couple of finishes on the reading front Firstly via audible A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J Maas Smallest book in the series - but still good Its told from the perspective of different characters which gives a bit more insight into how they are feeling Now onto the final book in the series - which for me when I read them before was the best one! Next a physical book One Golden Summer by Carley Fortune Sarah gifted me this book Its a romance with a good plot but it seemd to finish up too quickly Its the story of Alice w...

first week of April 2026

ANd here we are in april already! We've also just had Easter and I had a BIG list of things to finish and amazing I got it all done! I finished these socks This is the second time Ive made this pattern - firstly I made it up as a test knit - the pattern is Tootsie Rolls and its made for self striping yarn. Im really pleased with how well the two socks match as it can sometimes be a challenge and the OCD part of me likes the matchy matchy As you may know Ive been enjoying making cards, and a little side step from that is scrapbooking - something I swore I would NEVER do - but here I am This is my first spread designed by myself and Im pretty pleased with it - I like it more simple than busy, but who knows that might change as I do more Reading wise I have a finish Rereading (well relistening) to this series and loving it Fayre has returned to the spring court to wreak havoc there (but undercover) She and Rhysand are such a well matched pair and they both do not like being...

last week of March 2026

I finished March but finishing some pretty big projects - firstly the Wensleydale quilt which was foundation pieced - second time I have made this and its such a lovely design by Jenn Kingwell. I used beautiful Japanese fabrics gifted to me by David - a real treat and I hope Ive given justice to the fabrics Next finish was the Advent stitch along by Hugs and Kisses - this one took a lot of stitches but I did enjoy the construction. I also did another card class with my friend Juliana - these were using the sweet treats papers and I love how they turned out Im enjoying new ways to make cards and might try and work out some of my own designs soonish And finally another pair of socks finished - and another green pair! For someone who never used to like green I think Ive really embraced it. The Pattern is called Cirrus Socks by Helen Stewart and I used some Fibre Lily socks Ive had in my stash since last years Bendigo sheep and wool show Now onto reading - Summer Island by Kris...

third week of March 2026

After finishing nothing last week - this week has been stellar! Firstly a pair of socks - this was a kit I bought a few years ago and was a fundraiser to support breast cancer research and support The pattern is Hope adn Sunsine socks and the yarn is from Louie and Lola yarns. And then another pair of socks as well! These are the Gaiano socks and the yarn I used was Maximoo Yarns Luxury sock and was gifted to me by a fellow knitter from Ravelry who lives in Canada - its a beautiful yarn to work with. And finally - not socks - the Ankers Summer Shirt which I knit for myself Ive made this pattern before and have worn that top (in blue) a lot so wanted a white one as well I used Papyrus yarn and I think Ill get a lot of wear from this. As I said a very successful week - and no I didnt knit everything this week (that would be impossible) they were all at various stages and just happened to all finish in this one week. And I must admit its nice to not have anything on the needles hal...

second week of March 2026

Well I havent finished a thing - either craftwise or reading! I did however attend a 3 day community health conference that was excellent and Ill copy the CEO's summary here Last week several members of the team attended the ARRCH Conference, and I want to take a moment to celebrate the incredible contribution we made and the pride we all felt representing the amazing work happening across our organisation. Our team were outstanding ambassadors for NDCH, sharing their expertise and passion with colleagues from across the sector: Emily Wood and Tanya Maher-Toose – Listening Deeply to Community Alex Carter – Helping People Manage Chronic Disease Confidently Ingrid Cultivo – From Turning Point to Future Ready Each presentation highlighted the thoughtful, innovative and community-focused work that happens every day at NDCH. With Yvonne, Arthur, Nilda, Nicci, Di Bowles and I cheering them on, it was impossible not to feel immense pride — both in the quality of their presentations and i...

The months and weeks and days are flying by and here we are in March! Ive got a lot to show you as I think ive forgotten to show you some things! Firstly Ive finished this sashiko table runner that I started when I was in Queensland for over a month awaiting Ollies birth - and that was two years ago. I needed to get this finished and I have. Id also forgotten how soothing it is doing a stitching project like this - it was my early morning hand stitching project and I just loved working on it Ive also completed yet another pair of socks (and is this where I admit that I own way too many skeins of sock yarn and also way too many sock patterns I want to make up) The Pattern is Surprise socks designed Brigit Ka and the yarn I used was Faking Sanity Persuasion sock yarn which was gifted to me by a knitting friend from Canada. I also attended another card making with Juliana and I really enjoyed it - I may have bought some supplies to make some more. Who knew there was a craft I had...
