2023 - week 9 February 26 - March 4

Its March already and in theory its Autumn!

We've actually had some pretty glorious days weather wise but (and I cant believe Im saying it) we would love a good heavy lot of rain.

Its very dusty as can be seen from this pic - which is of Doug North smudging a couple of our paddocks that have been redesigned and relasered for better watering which Gary is really excited about.

Cows need green grass to eat so produce milk etc so good paddocks really help with that.

Craft wise Ive been busy! Ive finished another pair of shortie socks with yarn leftovers - this pattern is Rose City Rollers and the yarn is super bright but I do think they look great.  Yarn is from a friend of mine - Heathermaid.

Im not that much of an expert at crocheting - I can make a granny square, but last year I went to a class with Shelley Husband of Granny Square Academy fame and bought her book.  Ive tried a few of the patterns and really like the Solid Sue square - so Ive been making some blocks to make a quilt from them. Ive made 18 so far and have used almost half of my yarn from Bendigo Woollen Mills so will continue on until I run out of yarn.  I havent decided if I will just join the blocks together or crochet around them in a different colour or not - stay tuned!

I have also made good progress on the little stitchery blocks - and Im half way - with 15 stitcheries done and the same number to go.  Ive decided to sash each of them with some leftover Kaffe Fassett fabrics I had leftover from a quilt - so it will be bright!

No progress on my Soldotna Crop as Im giving my hands a bit of rest from knitting at the moment.

Ive also being doing some house painting at our staff's home - ready for our new staff to move into in just under two weeks.

On the reading front - Ive finished one audio book "Miss Percys Pocket Guide to the care and feeding of British dragons" I chose to listen to this as I love the way Zara Ramm narrates a book.  I think she made this book a lot better to listen to that it would have. Its the story of a spinster miss Percy who inherits from her great uncle and one of the items is a dragons egg. Its worth a listen and id rate it 3 out of 5.

I also finished (on my Kindle) The Quilt ripper which was a free book and is the story of items being stolen that were hidden by ancestors years ago.  It has a bit about a quilting group in it as well. Its a light read and I downloaded it read when travelling - its also a 3 out of 5

The final book I finished (physical book this time) is a definite 5 out of 5 read.  I read The Lady of Hay by Barbara Erskine in my early 20's and loved it.  I managed to get a copy of it recently and decided to reread it and I still loved it just as much.  It tells the story of Jo who is able to regress to become Matilda in the 12th century.  Several of her current friends are also part of the 12th century story - its a super long read but very much well worth it in my opinion.

So current project count so far this year is 12 projects completed and 15 books!
