February 2025 - achievements

So my goalsfor February - - read 4 books I finished the audio book of Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros in preparation for the 3rd book in the series being released - Onyx Storm
I really enjoyed this (again) and Im glad Ive reread the first two books in the series as I think I would find Onyx Storm confusing otherwise. This is such a great series that I find myself taking my time so its not over and done with! Yep theres dragons, romance, battles, plots, deceptions etc - just my time of book! I can now start Onyx Storm! I also finished the audio book of Christmas Past which is a short storm in the St Marys series by Jodi Taylor.
As always you can never go wrong with a St Mary's book - and although this is a short story it still packs a punch Matthew wants to check how his chimney sweep friends are and Max agrees to jump back on Christmas Eve to check on them Of course things go wrong but it all works out in the end Just love this series and the characters And the final audio book I read in February was The Culling by Tricia Wentworth
Ive had this book in my audible "queue" for I dont know how long and recently I tidied up my library there and refound this and thought I would listen to it Its a bit like the hunger games but not quite as good - its probably a young adult book now that I think about it Its a dystopian novel set in the future where a disease has killed off most of the population and there is a "culling" to decide the next president and his wife There's a bit of intrigue, adventures and romance - its book one of a series not sure if I will read the rest And finally a physical book finish House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J Maas
This is a big book! I had trouble getting into it to be honest, the characters were hard to work out and just when I thought I knew what was going on there's a plot twist Its different from her other books, but once you get to about 1/3 through it grabs you There's angels (both good and bad) different creatures and alternate universes and people that are plotting against others and not caring about the consequences All in all a good read but it didnt need to be this long! So - finish 4 books was successful! Next one - finish 2 ufos Yep did this too! Firstly finished the set of diamond art coasters that Maddison has done a couple of but I dont think she wanted to do anymore of! A bit fiddly and Ive added them to my gifting pile
And then I also finished the flannel quilt from Nicky! I needed to applique the pieces on which I did by machine and I do think Im getting much better at this and then of course the usual quilting and binding. This will be super snuggly in winter!
- start 2 new things Did this too and both sock related! The second sock of the doodle knits sock - this was fiddly but fun and IVe gifted these to Megan - thank you Dawn for gifting me the yarn and pattern for this as part of the Christmas Yarn Ball
And finally this pair of socks - pattern is Twizzler socks and the yarn is a beautiful gradient from Freckled Whimsy
And finally - walk everyday! Im not 100% sure but I think I achieved this! WHat a month - short but Mighty!

Ive had a very special finish and its a quilt that I love, I wish I didnt have to make but Im so glad that I have When mum went to heaven, the online quilting group that I am a member of - Southern Cross Quilters had the members make me heart blocks in rememberance of my dear mum. I asked for rainbow colours for the hearts as one of mums favorite songs was Somewhere Over the Rainbow. This is the result and its it lovely..... Its taken me a while to be able to sew them together and to quilt and bind it - I needed to wait for the right time Yes it was sad but also so very healing and it is one very special quilt that will hold a very special place in my heart Thank you to each and every one of the SCQuilters who made me a block Your love shines through Also PS the fabric I used as the borders and the backing fabrics were mums as was the label panel - that felt right

January 1 2025 - the year of trust

Here we are at the start of a new year - and I know for many its a day of making intentions and promises and looking ahead. The last couple of years have been incredibly hard for me with loss, sadness and disappointment. I am looking forward though and hoping for a better 2025 and I really feel my word for 2025 is trust. When I googled (as you do) the meaning of trust this came up The 4 elements of trust (Competency, Consistency, Integrity, and Compassion) are dependent on the way we behave - both individually and collectively. These behaviors come from innate traits that determine how we, as human beings, respond and/or act in any situation. I found this here - I think for me and what Im thinking at the moment - I need to trust myself, my beliefs, my thoughts and those around me who love and care for me. Working on some ufo's and a finish too!

Well here we are in 2025! If you read my last blog post, you will know Im intending on taking this a little easier (on myself that is) I think we put so much pressure on ourselves to do and to achieve and yes I do like doing all the things and achieving lots of things, dont get me wrong, but I want to do things that bring me joy and satisfaction. I know for the last few years Ive been showing you things as they are finished - this year Im going to show you things as they are progressing. I have a huge list of things (UFO's as we call them - unfinished objects) and I would really like to finish quite a few of them. I also have quite a lot of "new" projects I would like to get done - so you will get a blend of both.
