2023- week 16 - April 16- April 22

Feels like this week has just flown by! The weather has been amazing and Ive spent a lot of time out in the garden and it's looking pretty good if I do say so myself -  who says you cant reuse wood chips from the calf pen!!! And yes I like salvias LOL  On the crafty finishing department - not a lot to show as Ive been talking it easy but I did finish the english paper pieced table runner which Im pretty happy with.  To be honest when I started it I probably didnt have the paper piecing skills but now that Ive done a bit it was quite straight forward. I also finished a test knit hat for a friend but Im not sure if I can share the pic of that as yet - so stay tuned! Reading wise I finished a book on my kindle - it was recommended by a friend (thanks Anne!) and the best way to describe it is its the grown up version of Peter Pan - its a bit dark in places but a pretty good read - Id give it 4 out of 5 stars but definitely not for kids! Short and sweet this week - thank...

2023 - week 15 April 9 - April 15

Well that was Easter done and dusted and we are currently enjoying having Aimee, Matt and their family here with us.  We went and watched Maddison play her first netball game for White Hills - and luckily they played at Leitchville so just down the road.  She did well and her energy amazes me but then she's quite a few years younger than me LOL They only lost by 2 goals so it was  great effort for a new team. Ive just looked at my hopeful of finishing list from last week and I did get a bit done - Ive made a couple of the grey blanket squares so should get that finished this week.   I DID finish the place mats for Gary and I - and we've been using them too! I used up some leftovers from a quilt I made and I really like how the fabric pieces work together - here's a real live actual picture of them being used. Guess which one is mine? And Garys? I also finished a physical book "The Embroidered Book" by Kate Heartfield.  Its a historical story with a tw...

Ive decided that April will be the month for finishing off things so Ive been sorting through my craft stuff and finding the things to finish.  It includes (but not all sadly!!)! - crochet grey blanket (I have 6 squares to go!) - english paper pieced playing with paper blocks (there are 3 Ive done most of 1) - placemats x 2 (cut out and mostly pieced together) And a few kits Id like to get made up as well - one for making soap and the other for a roped basket Also three pairs of socks Ive started! Oh and another crocheted blanket - baby dots and a shawl Id like to make to Well thats a start at least and I can assure you there are plenty of other things on the "to do" list But I do have one finish which Im really proud of - I named March as Mosaic month and I Finally got round to completing the mosaic coasters and tray I got as kits.  Technically not finished until April as I need do get some paint for the finishing of the tray.  But here they are in their glory and ...

This week was Gaz's birthday! We managed to fit in a quick trip to Echuca and have lunch with Holly and Addie so that was lovely - and pick up our new glasses and a quick trip to Bunnings as well.  I love this pic of him, it was a couple of years ago when we took our little boat down the Pyramid Creek - he does love the thumbs up sign and he always wears his hat too. ve had several finishes on the crafting front so here goes, also Im not sure if Ive shown you the Soldotna Crop which I finished just in time for the Cohuna Show and it won a second prize. Im looking forward to wearing it over jeans and a long sleeved shirt- it's a cropped style. I also finished a pair of socks for Gary (actually finished them the night of his birthday!) The pattern is Dustland Socks and the yarn is Plucky in the colour way Make a Grown Man Cry which I think is a bit appropriate.  And finally I finished the little quilt with the embroidery blocks and Im really with how it turned out.  I...

2022 audio book reading stats

Image
I do love listening to audio books (I listen via audible) and I just found this email which shows my listening history for last year. It's a lot!  I enjoy listening to books in the car and when crafting too.  It's so easy to tell when you aren't paying attention.  But I do still love holding a "physical" book and reading - some books are just meant for that

2023 - week 11 March 12 - March 18

What a week it's been! Painting and renovating at the workers home has continued along with me chasing my tail every single day to try and get my usual jobs done and failing dismally at it!!!! However I did have a super exciting thing happen - my friends at our local Spinners and Weavers group encouraged me to enter some of my craft work in the local Cohuna show and this was a super scary thing to do. Im my own worst critic and I didnt think my work was good enough.  Well to my surprise I won two (yes two!!!) best exhibit rosettes and everything I entered got either a first or second prize.  To say I was blown away is an understatement but Im grateful to my friends for encouraging me.

2023 - week 10 March 5 - March 11

Not a lot to report this week - nothing finished craft or reading wise as Ive been busy painting our workers home ready for our new staff to arrive in a week. Ive never done paint rolling before so its a learning curve and the architraves around the doors are super tricky! And then of course there is the mopping of the floors and getting any paint drops off Last pic is one room finally complete! So I suppose I can count this as a new skill HA

2023 - week 9 February 26 - March 4

Its March already and in theory its Autumn!  We've actually had some pretty glorious days weather wise but (and I cant believe Im saying it) we would love a good heavy lot of rain.   Its very dusty as can be seen from this pic - which is of Doug North smudging a couple of our paddocks that have been redesigned and relasered for better watering which Gary is really excited about. Cows need green grass to eat so produce milk etc so good paddocks really help with that. Craft wise Ive been busy! Ive finished another pair of shortie socks with yarn leftovers - this pattern is Rose City Rollers and the yarn is super bright but I do think they look great.  Yarn is from a friend of mine - Heathermaid. Im not that much of an expert at crocheting - I can make a granny square, but last year I went to a class with Shelley Husband of Granny Square Academy fame and bought her book.  Ive tried a few of the patterns and really like the Solid Sue square - so Ive been making som...

2023 - week 7 February 12 - 18

What a week! Some of the hottest days we have had all summer - one day was 42 degrees Celsius and then a couple of other mornings you needed a coat on the early hours - crazy! Not much on the finishing front but plenty of WIPs (works in progress!!)  I did finish the english paper pieced table topper, I enjoyed making this and its sort of a "free" quilt as its all from leftovers- even the batting inside is lots of leftover pieces joined together.  Just show why we keep scraps LOL Once that was finished I started two (yes two) more hand stitching projects - Im really enjoying the slowness of these type of things at the moment - yes plenty of machine pieced quilt kits I could start but enjoying these for the moment - one is a table runner, the other a stitchery panel that I will cut up and sash piece around each of the blocks to make a quilt.  Im alternating working on each of them, however Im a bit more drawn to the table runner if Im honest.  I think I go...

2023 - week 6 February 6 - February 11

Hello! Lots been happening this week! On the farm we dried a few more cows off ready to have their calves in 6 or so weeks so less time milking which is nice.  Ive also started taking part in a ladies fitness bootcamp and its obviously working as my muscles ache for a day or two afterwards! Ive also been busy on the sock front! Made this quick and cute pair of shortie socks with the leftovers from the easy mosaic socks and I think Ive got about 2 yards left of the yarn so very happy with that! The pattern is Golden Days and its a lovely pattern which gives a great result and Ill definitely be making them again  I also finished the second sock of the pairfect socks!  They have headed to my gifting box which is very low on socks post Christmas as all the family loves getting my socks for gifts. Ive also started a new knitting project - the Soldotna crop and Im using lovely yarn from Skein.  Its really nice to be using DK weight yarn when Ive been doing so much fi...
